Log Cabin Elopement Near Edinburgh

Coastal Scotland Elopement Photography

If you’re dreaming of something quiet, creative and deeply personal, this kind of elopement is exactly why I love working as an Edinburgh elopement photographer.

Kirsty and Connor chose a secret cabin tucked into the East Lothian coastline just outside Edinburgh which is close enough for city access, but wild enough to feel like an escape. 30 minutes on the train from Edinburgh or around the same by car. Their day was relaxed, joyful and beautifully intentional, with a beach ceremony, good food, and time to properly soak it all in.

This is what modern Scottish elopements can look like: thoughtful, atmospheric and completely your own. An elopement in a secret cabin in the woods with a beach ceremony, perfect Scottish summer illicit romance and something a bit different for unique dreamers.

Kirsty and Connor’s Secret Cabin elopement was a beautiful hot sunny day last summer in East Lothian.

An Edinburgh Elopement…But Off The Tourist Path

Many couples coming to Scotland want the magic of Edinburgh without the crowds. The East Lothian coast is perfect for that:

  • quiet beaches and hidden coves

  • creative independent suppliers

  • relaxed accommodation options

  • easy travel from Edinburgh city centre

It gives you the romance of Scotland without the staged feel which tends to be something especially important for couples who prefer authentic experiences over traditional weddings. And a couple of days away from the bustle of the city means that everything feels extra special and romantic, plus the city is only 30 minutes away to return to, breaking up a visit to the city and slowing things down to really relish the experience.

As a local Edinburgh elopement photographer, I often help couples find these lesser-known spots alongside trusted suppliers.

Documentary Elopement Photography (Film + Digital)

My approach blends documentary storytelling with analogue film photography.

That means:

  • natural, unposed moments

  • atmosphere over perfection

  • emotional storytelling

  • timeless film imagery alongside digital coverage

It works especially well for camera-shy couples and creative personalities who want photographs that feel real rather than performative.

Scotland’s coast, changing light and textured landscapes are ideal for this style.

Planning an Elopement Near Edinburgh

One of the best things about eloping in Scotland is flexibility:

  • ceremonies can happen almost anywhere

  • humanist ceremonies are legally recognised

  • intimate celebrations are completely normal

For this elopement we organised:

  • celebrant and legal witnesses

  • secluded accommodation

  • local florals and food

  • travel logistics

  • photography coverage

Many couples, especially international ones, appreciate having a photographer who can also offer local planning insight. This was a proper elopement, nobody knew beforehand, no witnesses that the couple brought with them, just us (I acted as one of the legal witnesses for the marriage licence) and one of their celebrant’s friends came along as our second witness.

The beach were we held the ceremony and took a wander for couple’s portraits is about 5 minutes walk from the cabin. And even on a super sunny day we managed to find a quiet spot by the rocks for the ceremony.

Our cabin is also fairly close to North Berwick so couples who chose to stay for a few days have a nearby town to grab food, visit the pub, play tourist or indulge in any shared interests. The East Lothian coastline has a bit of everything and the old towns have great food, there’s spas, coffee shops, day trips, woods, a heap of golf courses, every watersport you can think of and even a couple of nearby distilleries to visit.

Those travelling without a car can still get here too, the cabin is a short taxi away from North Berwick train station which has regular trains direct from Edinburgh city centre.

I’d love to hear what you’re dreaming up.
