Championing the camera-shy
Let’s be honest, being in front of a camera can feel cringe. Awkward. Unnatural. Like you don’t quite know what to do with your hands or your face. Like the lens might eat yer soul. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. There are support groups in your local area…
Many people — couples, creatives, and business owners alike — worry about looking stiff, fake, or unlike themselves in photos. The good news? Feeling awkward at first is completely normal… and it doesn’t mean your photos won’t be beautiful.
In fact, sometimes the best images happen when you push past the cringe and lean into the moment. Go with me on this…
I don’t expect you to be confident in front of the camera straight away or at all. There’s no pressure to perform, pose perfectly, or pretend you’re comfortable when you’re not.
Instead, I create a relaxed space where you can settle in at your own pace. We move through the awkwardness together, often laughing about it, until the camera fades into the background. When you allow yourself to lean into the experience (even when it feels a little silly), something shifts. The tension softens. The photos start to feel real. I HATE being photographed but I love yapping so I’ll distract you with some patter as we pop a few frames.
Pushing past the cringe isn’t about forcing confidence, it’s about allowing yourself to be human.
Wedding Photography for Couples Who Don’t Love the Spotlight
Many couples choose me as their wedding photographer because they don’t want their day to feel like a photoshoot. If the idea of posing all day makes you uncomfortable, my documentary-inspired approach is designed with you in mind.
I focus on:
Real moments instead of stiff poses
Genuine connection rather than performance
Letting you enjoy your day — awkward laughs included
So often, couples begin the day saying, “We’re going to be so awkward,” and end it surprised by how much fun they had. Once you move past the initial self-consciousness, the joy naturally takes over — and that’s what shows in your images. I also tend to creep around in bushes so hopefully at times you won’t even notice I’m there…like a camera ninja in the shadows.
Elopement Photography That Feels Free and Unfiltered
Elopements are often quieter, more personal, and free from expectations — which makes them the perfect place to push past the cringe and do things your own way.
I photograph elopements with a light touch, giving you space to move, breathe, and be present with each other. Whether you’re laughing through nerves, embracing silence, or doing something a little unconventional, I document it honestly and unobtrusively.
No stiff posing. No pressure. Just space to be yourselves and even to have fun with it and lean into all the surreal feelings.
Brand & Promotional Portraits Without the Awkwardness
Being photographed for your business can feel just as intimidating as a wedding especially if you’re a local brand owner, creative, or entrepreneur who isn’t used to being in front of the lens.
When I work with brands and individuals, my goal is to create promotional portraits that feel natural and aligned with who you truly are. We focus on movement, interaction, and moments in between not perfection. Laidback, human, approachable, creative…By pushing past the awkwardness and leaning into a more playful, honest approach, brand photography becomes less about posing and more about connection. Does anyone care for corporate stiff boring portraits when they don’t feel like the people behind the business. Nah.
Photography That Lives Just Beyond the Cringe
You don’t need to be confident, polished, or “good in photos” to be photographed beautifully. You just need to show up as yourself, nerves, laughter, awkward moments and all.
My work is rooted in the belief that the most meaningful images often live just beyond the cringe. When you allow yourself to relax, let go, and even have a bit of fun with the discomfort, the result is photography that feels true to you.
If you’ve ever thought, “This is going to feel awkward,” you’re exactly the kind of person I love working with.
