Meet the Elopers : Sam & Dariusz

Edinburgh city centre elopement, a Humanist ceremony in a gothic courtyard followed by a pub crawl. Fancy it? I know all the best spots…The Elopement Society is a collaborative offering of bespoke elopements in Edinburgh and along the East Lothian coast. Click the link below for more info on what we can offer.

We aren’t a traditional wedding planner business so we don’t charge the rates they do, we just offer our contacts and local knowledge with your ideal day in mind. Not all of our suppliers are based in the wedding industry, they’re all local independent creatives with a focus on working in sustainable ways.

We always create something unique, joyful and suited to the story of our couples. We’re a bit under the radar as we never want to be on trend, we’re for the leftfield, for the underdogs, the neurodivergents and the weirdos. Our days are illicit (but legally binding if you want them to be, all our celebrant pals are licensed to officiate legal wedding ceremonies and the beauty of doing this in Scotland is you can marry pretty much anywhere as long as you submit the paperwork on time - links to FAQs with all the formalities here).

Sam and Dariusz worked with Andrea, Soulful Celebrant from Agnostic Scotland for their ceremony. She’s an amazing storyteller, very connected to nature and committed to making each ceremony unique to the story of each couple. Agnostic Scotland is a non-profit organisation which invests in sustainability. Each of the celebrants in our community work for different organisations with a slightly different ethos but all are inclusive and licensed to officiate legal ceremonies across Scotland.

Sam and Dariusz eloped from Canada late this summer. Sam wanted something that felt gothic as a space for their ceremony. She’d done her research and found a spot she had her heart set on. Our celebrant, Andrea, got the all clear from the space to use it. We met at their hotel for a leisurely getting ready with help on makeup and hair from the lovely The Made Up Team and Salon Beehive, who are based in the same studio building as me if you want to talk about keeping it local.

Andrea came to meet us there and as the couple finished up getting ready we shot a few individual portraits at the hotel then headed off the walk across the city centre to the ceremony spot.

After Andrea’s beautiful words the 3 of us headed to a couple of bars for a drink and a chat while we shot our couple’s portraits, taking in some classic Edinburgh city centre backdrops before I said bye and let them go for a fancy dinner and some celebratory cocktails. A pretty awesome way to spend a Tuesday.

For elopements I have a half day photography package and I can help with elopement design by collecting some suitable suppliers and suggesting the best spots to make the day feel unique to your story of what brought you to this point together.
