Wedding: Chris + Frankie @ Collective Gallery

Collective Gallery and The Lookout on Calton Hill are the lushest of places to shoot a small wedding. I think it’s something to do with the wide open horizon in the middle of the city. It’s also great attention to detail and service from the team. These are some images I took at the wedding there of my friends, Chris and Frankie.

We were all excited and waiting for their Polish wedding when the first lockdown happened. Then the rescheduled Warsaw date came and went with more restrictions so they decided to do something smaller at home.

This beautiful (very warm - didn’t post the taps aff photos of Frankie’s dad) sunny day was still under a bunch of restrictions around weddings. Hats off to all the couples out there who had to navigate that shitstorm while planning. So, instead of having a full day celebration, they had an outdoor ceremony and drinks with guests then a smaller meal and some speeches with immediate family in a wee room in the gallery space with food from The Lookout.

Frankie also worked with Robbie Purves from Sonte salon, Linda from Agnostic Scotland for the ceremony, Ochre Botanical Studios provided the beautiful florals and the legend Cecilia Stamp made the rings. The dress is an altered vintage dress from Those Were The Days with Frankie making that amazing huge bow herself.

Pro tip - Collective Gallery don’t allow confetti unless it’s 100% natural dried flower confetti.

It always feels different shooting for folks you know and I find it much harder as you are already emotionally involved in their story plus its a bit harder to be a creep in the bushes when everyone knows you. I kept it together until I was saying bye! It’s just the loveliest thing to be a wee part of a celebration of a great partnership like that. I’m so glad these two found each other cos they make sense and I love them.

Anyways, enough being soppy. I’d recommend the Collective Gallery and The Lookout for wee Edinburgh weddings, the team are ace, the food is great and the light is total chef’s kiss.

I’ve also shot this venue with the ceremony indoors for a micro-wedding and it was lush too. The gift shop area is cleared out for use for ceremonies, with drinks outside and food in The Lookout so there’s different options for using the spaces available to suit your plans.
